SHAFT 1 AREA GOLD ZONES

Click here to download Powerpoint presentation providing an orientation overview of the Shaft 1 area gold zones model (8.23MB)

Instructions for loading and using 3D model of Shaft 1 area gold zones:

  1. Open a new folder on your hard drive.
  2. Click on Download vrml Viewer and download the viewer file to the new folder (file title is: vrmlview.exe).
  3. Click on Download 3D Gold Zone Model – Shaft 1 Area and download the model data to the same folder.  The data file name will appear in your folder as PC_0.5GPT_Envelopes
  4. Note the model data in file PC_0.5GPT_Envelopes is zipped (compressed).  You will have to unzip the file at your end using the WinZip file utility for Windows.  If you don't already have it, a copy of this program can be purchased from www.winzip.com
  5. Download Winzip to your hard drive and when installed, go back to the zipped model data (PC_0.5GPT_Envelopes), right click on the file icon and highlight ‘Open With Winzip’
  6. A window will open with the zipped model data file (PC_0.5GPT_Envelopes) in it.  Right click on that file, scroll down the menu, and highlight ‘Extract’
  7. A window will open asking to where you wish to extract the file.  Click on your new folder and then click ‘Extract’, bottom right.
  8. With the data extracted and in your folder, next double click on the vrmlview.exe file in the same folder and open it.
  9. When the vrml viewer opens, go to File / Open Model on menu line at top.  A window will open.
  10. In the window, double click on 3D Gold Zone Model – Shaft 1 Area from your folder to open the model.

    Related Information

The 3D Gold Zone Model – Shaft 1 Area as downloaded displays gold zones in gold, veins in blue, and levels (underground drifts) as grey/white.  The gold zone solids in the model define the broad mineralized envelopes that encompass the three historically known zones of gold mineralization (respectively, the No. 1, No. 5 and Central Gold Zones), lying in place within the Shaft 1 workings of the Pickle Crow Gold Mine.

The distance from the top of the model (ground surface) to the bottom of the mine (lowest level) is -1,158 m / -3,800 ft.

The model incorporates data from 699 historical diamond drill holes, of which 129 were surface holes and 570 were drilled from underground.  The No. 5 Gold Zone as shown in the model is intersected by 93 surface holes and 156 underground holes.  The nearby No. 1 Gold Zone is intersected by 36 surface holes and 414 underground holes. The great majority of these historical holes were drilled by companies at one time affiliated with Teck Corporation (now Teck Cominco).

The software platform used for creating the model was Gemcom.  The model was drawn from mine level plans and did not extrapolate beyond the actual historical assays on the levels. The irregular outlines of the gold zones as portrayed by the model therefore reflect gaps in the historical drilling record for those areas (i.e. those areas have not yet been drilled), not necessarily an absence of zone / mineralization continuity.

    ABOUT THE IMAGES BELOW

Move cursor over each image to view caption.  Click to expand.

In the images below, red is banded iron formation (IF), hosting within it three known gold zones: the No. 1 IF, the No. 5 IF, and the Central IF.  Green-blue is vein, principally the No. 1 and No. 5 veins.  Grey-white are workings (levels and shafts).  Drill holes are multi-colour, depending on the lithologies intersected in each.
